How Much Does a Graduation Wreath Cost (and Why a Real One Lasts Three Days)

How Much Does a Graduation Wreath Cost (and Why a Real One Lasts Three Days)

“How much does a graduation wreath cost?” is a question with two answers, and the second one is the one that counts.

The first answer is the price on the receipt. The second is how much it costs you per day, and that is where the math changes completely.

THE FRESH WREATH: THE PRICE IS NOT THE PROBLEM

You can find a real laurel wreath at the florist, and in most cases, it costs less than a 3D-printed one. So far, no argument: if you only look at the price tag, it wins.

The problem comes on the following Tuesday.

Fresh laurel starts losing water the moment it is cut. After two days, the leaves curl at the edges; after four, the green turns brown; after a week, what you had on your head on the most important day of your last five years is a gray twig that crumbles if you touch it.

Everyone who has tried knows: hairspray, pressing it between books, the oven at a low temperature. It doesn’t work. At best, you get a fragile keepsake that no one will dare move from the cabinet anymore.

So here is the real math: a fresh wreath costs its full price for three days of life. Then it is worth zero.

WHAT YOU PAY FOR A 3D-PRINTED WREATH

Ours start at €89.90 for the classic and go up to €119.90 for the versions dedicated to a faculty, with engraving and shipping included.

This is where that money goes, because it makes sense to know before deciding.

Handwork, which is the time-consuming part

3D printing makes the leaves. Then every single leaf is picked up, bent, and inserted into the structure one by one, so that they open in different directions like on a real branch. That is why our wreaths are lush and not a flat row of little leaves on a headband — and it is also why four hours in the workshop produce two, not twenty.

A secondary, but not insignificant, consequence: two wreaths are never identical. No hand repeats the same gesture twice.

The material

Bioplastic derived from corn starch, not injection-molded plastic. It doesn’t dry out, yellow, or crumble. The leaves have a geometry that makes them flexible, so the wreath withstands the bag you put it in, the journey, hugs, and your little brother.

The engraving

On the faculty versions, the design is not printed on top: it is engraved leaf by leaf. The lines of a circuit on the Engineering and Computer Science one, the musical staff on the Music and Conservatory one, the pattern of knots on the Journalism and Communication one. From afar, it is a laurel wreath. Up close, you can tell what you studied.

The size

Ten sizes, from 52 to 61 cm in circumference. A wreath in the right size does not leave a mark on your forehead after an hour and does not slide back in every photo. We explain how to take your measurements here, in two minutes.

THE DAILY MATH

Let’s do the math, because it is the only honest way to compare two such different things.

You need a fresh wreath for three days. You will still have a 3D-printed one in ten years, hanging in your room, on your study shelf, or in the hands of your first child who wants to know what it is.

We are not saying it is an investment: it is an object, not a government bond. We are saying that the right question is not “how much does it cost,” but “how long will it last me”.

THE THINGS THAT MAKE THE PRICE GO UP OR DOWN

  • The faculty. The dedicated engraving costs €30 more than the classic one, because it is a design created from scratch and engraved on every leaf.

  • The color. Eight combinations, from classic green to magenta black shaded, with no difference in price. The Pride is the technical exception: a continuous seven-color transition built leaf by leaf.

  • The sculptural elements. On the Odyssey wreath, below the bow, hangs a 3D-modeled spine with the silhouette of Agamemnon’s helmet. It is not an engraving: it is a separate piece.

  • Off-catalog. If what you have in mind is not there, it is designed and quoted on a case-by-case basis. Message us on WhatsApp and we will talk about it: the quote is free and does not commit you to anything.

AND THE GIFT FOR THOSE WHO WERE THERE

With the wreath come some lucky leaves to leave with those who came to see you. Tradition says that whoever receives a leaf from the wreath takes home a piece of your luck — except that a real leaf, after three days, is dust at the bottom of a pocket. These are not.
