How to take measurements for a laurel wreath: a 2-minute guide
Share
It's the question we get asked most often, and the answer is simpler than you think. You need two minutes and a tailor's measuring tape.
It's worth doing it right: a crown that's too tight leaves a mark on your forehead after an hour, while one that's too loose slides backward in every photo of the day.
WHERE TO PLACE THE MEASURING TAPE
Wrap the tailor's measuring tape all the way around your head, at the height where you want to wear the crown:
above the ears, not below
about a finger's width above the eyebrows on the forehead
keeping the tape snug but not tight: it should rest against the skin, not leave a mark
Read the number in centimeters and choose the corresponding size. Our crowns range from 52 to 60 cm, which cover practically all adult head sizes.
DON'T HAVE A TAILOR'S TAPE?
Take a piece of cotton thread, some string, or a charging cable. Wrap it around your head as described above, mark the point with a finger or a pen, then lay it out along a ruler or a measuring stick.
It works exactly the same way. The important thing is not to pull it tight.
IF YOU ARE BETWEEN TWO SIZES, CHOOSE THE LARGER ONE
Do you measure 56.5 cm and aren't sure whether to choose 56 or 57? Go for the 57.
A slightly larger crown can be secured with your hairstyle, a bobby pin, or simply by wearing it a little further back. A crown that is too tight, however, cannot be widened, and after two hours of celebrating, you will notice it.
This applies double if you have thick, curly hair, or if you are planning an updo with volume for your graduation day: in that case, measure with the hairstyle you will have, or add one centimeter.
IF IT'S A GIFT AND YOU CAN'T ASK
The most delicate case: you want to give a surprise and you can't put a measuring tape around their head without ruining the surprise.
-
Measure one of their hats. Take the inner circumference of the headband: that is the figure you are looking for.
-
Ask someone who lives with them. A parent, partner, or roommate: they can measure without raising suspicion.
-
Go for the average size. If there's truly no way, the 56-57 cm is the most requested size and fits most people.

SOMETHING THAT ONLY APPLIES TO OUR CROWNS
Fresh laurel crowns are rigid: the size is either right or it isn't.
Our leaves are 3D-printed with a geometry that makes them flexible, so the crown has a margin of adjustment that real laurel doesn't have. It isn't as stretchy as a rubber band — you should still get the right size — but it forgives that extra half-centimeter and holds up to bumps, hugs, and being shoved in a bag for your trip.
📏 Do you have your measurement? Our laurel crowns are 3D-printed and crafted by hand, leaf by leaf: as thick as a real one, but they never dry out. Sizes from 52 to 60 cm, engraving and shipping included. Discover the crowns.
